School Board Forum (unforseen twist)

Tonight there was a giant school board meeting. Now, in a town this size, the school board (including the trustees) are 5 and the audience is usually 1 or 2. Tonight, the gym was full. In a town this size, it is all for one and one for all. Everyone knows each other. It is a tight knit community. In a town this size, everyone knows everything and they support you whether you deserve it or not.

The agenda included 2 items. One was whether or not to renew the teaching contract of a certain teacher (who is also the head boys basketball coach who has had a horrible losing season 3/3 years here) and whether or not to renew his coaching contract. The Board's attorney was there to ensure everything was in order and followed parlimentary procedure.

There was opportunity for public comment. I was one of those teachers to support him getting his teaching contract back. He had good evaluation, the admin. supporting his renewal, plus he is the only coach that has come to every concert and given me a thank you note for it and for pep band (out of 13 years!) One hour of speaking for him, one person saying their kids didnt learn from him.

After an hour of discussion, the board passed a motion to renew his teaching contract 3-2, which gives him tenure.

The second item up for agenda was the hot topic...his credibility as a coach. We sat through 2 hours of discussion, of listening to all the other coaches and athletic directors support him, of parents support him, of girls support him, 2 boys supported him, 2 graduating boys support him. 2 hours of speaking for him, one person at the very end wondering why the other boys weren't here supporting him.

Finally, there was board discussion.

The vote was taken.

2 voted for his renewal.

2 voted against it.

1 was undecided...and asked for recess. The lawyer said there can be no recess in the middle of the vote and it had to be given. If he abstained, the contract would not be renewed.

He abstained.

The contract was not renewed.

He, the abstaining board member, is Fallace's grandson.

April Snow Showers!

made things really start growing! Now, in most parts of the world, spring flowers are BLOOMING by now, but not quite the same story when you live in the mountains of montana! Things are just starting to come up from being planted last year.

Here are some of the iris' that Pennie and momma gave me from their flower bed, (and a little petrified wood from Lake De Snake).
(Yes, the dang deer walk through my beds, and i'm lucky they didn't chomp all the green stuff!)
A couple of grape hyacinth popping up...
Some blue flax getting started...
In the garden, there are a few more surprises, too!
Here is the rhubarb that my father-in-law gave me from his garden last fall. I have some strawberries planted to the right and left of it. Yum yum cobbler!
The chives are coming back...really good to see that! I love chives in cottage cheese!
and best of all..............onions!
Just a little pic, i have about 1/5 of the garden growing onions, love them in everything! Sure am glad spring is here and the April snow showers have brought on the flowers!

Visits!

Such a wonderful, wonderful weekend!

Saturday, April 07, 2007

Look who came to visit!

She is 16 months old now, and quite the girlie! There's a lot going on behind those baby blues!
Her new Easter hat didn't stay on long, but her pretty new dress did! Look how cute her little necklace is!
Here is a beautiful 4 generation picture. Just look at those smiles! I'm so thankful that my mom got to meet Teyla and so glad I got to see her, today! I saw her get out of the car and as she walked, tears filled my eyes. She is so beautiful.

Here is our family together...my mom, Lillian Creek, (Great gramma, 80), Rose (Teyla's gramma), myself (gramma E) Michelle (Teyla's birthmom) , Araka (Teyla's adopted mom). Priceless.

She loved the cat. She loved the dog. She loved jumping on the bed. And she loved the piano. That 'a girl! Her personality is so grand! She is so loved, so well taken care of, in such a wonderful place. Thank you Jeff and Araka for sharing her life with us!

Our new raft.

Scott modified this trailor by building the platform. There is a crank lever to reel it up on the side for storage underneath. Still needs to finish the walls around it but....WE GOT THE BOAT! River rafts are awesome. The ice box is my seat, the dry box is his seat. We will get on the Missouri this summer for 5 days (or more) at a time. How nice is that?
