Memory Garden
In the middle, the light colored grassy looking stuff is PINKS. They are little pink carnations, smell incredibly sweet. Mom and I loved them.
This is the pink rose bush I planted, called SOURING SPIRIT. It is vining, and will get some sort of trellis for it in the spring, one that will hold a bird feeder and a little chime, too. Quite appropriate after we released all those pink balloons. (Did i tell you a pink balloon landed in Dick's yard a few days after the funeral???)
These are some irises I dug up from mom's flower bed. I had planted them there when she first moved in, they originally came from my house in Belle Fourche. They will look MUCH better next spring! lol I will plant Kenny's marigolds around the outside edges and to the north and south of the irises.
(I just wanted you to see my beautiful red bush, have no idea what it is called!)
A stone, much like Rubye's and AJ's...I bought it last time I was in Ennis, when mom was still with us. So appropriate...
This is a picture of my best friend when I lived at home in Hulett. I haven't lived with it until the beginning of the summer of 1981. So wonderful to have that legacy, so bittersweet to be in possesion of it.
I opened it all up, vacuumed and dusted the inside and put lemon oil all over the ouside. I will have it tuned in a couple of months.
George is sitting on the table we just recently acquired from Dick, it was Big Grampa's. That's dang special, too.
Gus just wants in the picture.
Love you guys...

WE hiked up the Tongue RIver today.
Camera batteries were dead...this is with my phone...the whole hike was colored like this....the sounds and smells of autumn were refreshing and healing to my soul. Here is one Ed took with Scott's camera...
It was a great hike. All I could think about was when dad died in September, everything preceding his death that had to do with autumn reminded me of dying. I hated Fall and it took a few years to get over that. This year, for some reason, with mom's death, I see it as a complete cycle in life...and the beautiful colors and wonderful smells are endearing to me...

Best movie I've seen in a very long time...
A brilliant fix
The smart, nuanced boardroom thriller Michael Clayton has virtues plus George Clooney!

It's worth the money! He's such a class act along with the other actors/actresses. The writing is most excellent and it ISN"T PREDICTABLE!

I shared it, but I gotta post it...
Jolene took a wellness day and went to where we grew up. You can see the pictures of Fremont Lake on Meanie's blog, right HERE
It prompted me to find this old pic and post it. Jolene, Beckie, Rubye on far right, and I am second on the left in the front, not sure who number 1 and 3 are in the front. One girl mom babysat that used to bite me really hard (Maylee), not sure if that is her or not and the other may be Kathleen Beck, not sure about that either. I just know I loved that lake.
With our mother sitting in front of us on the white sand. This is probably summer of '69 I am guessing. This is a priceless picture!

It's M&Ms Birthday Party!
We finally got to celebrate Megan and Michelle turning 22. Michelle and Terry are here for a couple days. And here is what I had waiting for me on the table when I got home from school!
Beautiful flowers, jack-0-lantern earrings, black licorice gummy bears, a rock scker and jelly beans...mmm thanks Bopper!
We were going to have stuffed salmon, but when Michelle opened the oven door, it smelled like the fish we used to disect in HS biology class...ewww. So, we went to Red Robin and pigged out.
We got back to the house to have the birthday cake which is actually pistacio pudding pie that bopper made.
And in the window, you will see the HAPPY BIRTHDAY streamer that we have had since about 1991. Wow.
What the heck is in the picture?
Oh, well, you gotta get a little goofy once in a while!
Presents, presents, presents...
Beautiful oriental vase to go with her oriental living room stuff...
Terry was a little more interested in reading the magazine...
Megs relaxed with her new footstool!
We had a wonderful evening and of course by the time it was all over...
George was exhausted.
Love ya girlies! Happy birthday!

When we floated,
I took a ton of pictures and rather put them in order, I just posted them all and will explain what they are as the post progresses.
I'm too grouchy to get too creative.
Anyway, this is where we stopped along the river to eat lunch...Gus thought this giant dead tree was his stick.
These are the Crazy Mountains with some pretty colors in the foreground.

Look closely on the grassy hill, you will see the antelope (fastest mammal in North America) looking on...
Pretty cool seeing the wild turkeys along the shore, as well.
Wind power....
We stopped for a break. Scott and Gus are squatting on a rock ledge going out into the beautiful water.
Fall colors coming out in teh bushes on the rims.
Distant look at our lunch stop spot.
Here's the lunch I packed for us.
Colors...
Gus Bob...
Gus Bob at the helm...
Putting in...
on a lovely day.
It was nice and relaxing. We floated for 5 hours. The water is quite low, the colors are beautiful and the smell and sounds were incredible.

Today, I baked
banana bread with chocolate chips and nuts, banana bread with chocolate chips and no nuts, pumpkin pie desert with cinnamon chips on top and i wept as it just made me miss mom so much. Before she departed from our life, it always made me feel closer to her when I baked....reminded of so many different memories of her cooking. Today, it made me miss her terribly. I always miss her terribly.

The good news is...
there is nothing wrong with my knee. The pain is from a muscle that goes from my hip across the knee. The reason why it hurts is because I've had to accommodate how I walked so my feet didn't hurt so bad. 6 weeks of physical therapy and that will be better.
The bad news is my feet need some reconstructive surgery. I will start those surgeries after my physical therapy.

Not last weekend, but the weekend before,
we went for a lovely drive up past Redlodge. The grasses are starting to turn...
We found a nice little trailhead, hadn't planned for the 26 mile hike...we just went a mile or so...
and it followed the beautiful Stillwater river.
There's nothing like a man and his dog...
Some parts were so slow and peaceful...
while other parts tumbled down over the boulders. Keep in mind, the water is incredibly low in the fall. I"m anxious to do the hike in the spring or early summer; the water level will cover most of these rocks.
We had the most spectacular view of the Beartooth Range as we hiked along...
Someone got grouchy because she didn't get to go...
while others slept because they were exhausted from all the fun...
There's nothing like a man and his dog...
