I teach at

a school of about 600 7th and 8th graders. These students (just as everyone else) were just as heated over the election as, say, their parents, you, me, the NATION, the WORLD! Today was a different sort of day in the choir room. Rather than work on our concert literature, I felt like we needed to just meld back together. The ELECTION was a topic NOT ALLOWEd in the choir room. We sat by whomever we wanted to and sang songs such as...Battle Hymn of the Republic, America the Beautiful, the Star Spangled Banner...Why Can't We Be Friends, k3 Little Birds, Lean on Me, Halleluiah (SHREK), One Tin Soldier, We Didn't Start the Fire...gradually we were able to get into Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog, Proud Mary, Don't Stop Believin'...we melded. We all needed it. It was a good day.

Whew.

Now what should we talk about?
