Enjoying Simplicities

4th of July rolled around and we wanted to camp, but at a place in which we would see no other people. Well, this meant no mountains, no rivers or lakes, no camp grounds etc; basically it meant we were going to camp where natural beauty isn't as apparent.

Head north, we did, to find some federal grass land. Here's Scott helping his nephew, Kirby, set up his tent. See how vast this country is?
Lots and lots of wild flowers blooming, but the blossoms of the prickly pear cactus and yucca stole my heart!

Red ant hill!
Taking walks always turns up interesting sights!
Big Sky country lives up to its name, can you name the different types of clouds you see in this pic?
Okay, let's see where this road leads us. Behind me is the gray sage, typical in size.
Ahhh, can you see the horned toad in this pic?
Look how cute he is! They eat ants and mosquitos and such.
Scott taking a picture of the horned toad, lol.
Ah hah! The infamous DUNG BEETLE! (first time I've ever seen these guys. One helped roll the ball of dung by weighing down the up side, the other pushed with it's back legs. What a team!)

Check this out...and we think our jobs suck!

After that walk (of a couple miles) I took a little nap. We had dinner then headed for a walk to the west.
Here's the camera on zoom...see our camper? lol
We walked for a couple of miles and finally saw some more wildlife...

See the antelope? These guys are usually VERY thick in this location but have been stricken with a deadly
disease, blue tongue. Most have died. This group of 5 saw us and took off running, and boy can they run!
Antelope prints crossing the road.
We came across an old broken down windmill.

Above is the gear and below is the shaft.
More road of our walk...with an old water trough.

Here's the one live and one dead tree we saw, lol.
Time to turn around...the evening was coming fast and the air was starting chilling quickly.
So I whipped out my new down coat, especially made to fold up to go in my back pack.

Gus heard some cows!

The evening was windy, so we had to call it a night earlier than any of us wanted to. The next day, Scott and Kirby decided to target practice with their 22s. Yeah...I tried! It's probably the 2nd or 3rd time I'd ever shot a gun and guess what?
I hit all 3 targets, can you see them?
Then we simply enjoyed a nice drive home.
No matter where you go, all you have to do is look and you will find nature's beauty. You'll never be disappointed!
