Big ol' Sonic Boom?

Remember how loud those used to be? Today I was laying on my couch and heard what I initially though was that childhood sound, but instantly knew it was too loud. Had lightening hit close by? Our weather has been pretty extreme lately... but wtf? I looked out the front window and there was a vehicle parked on the street - I ran out to see if they were okay and the elderly couple had quite a perplexed look on their faces. "I thought some of my tires blew up, but they are all fine!" he said to his wife. I looked behind me and saw a giant plume of black smoke coming from about 1 1/2 blocks away. I started walking...fire trucks, police officers and ambulances zoomed by. Soon I was about 4 houses away from the blocked off road. I could see a fireman spraying water to the north AND to the south. I turned to look behind me and noticed glass all over the ground - the house I was standing by had lost it's windows from the blast! Here's what the news is reporting.

I'm still in shock over the whole thing!

First Float of Summer 2011 - Stillwater

Headed up above Columbus...
You can see how green our country is from all the rain and the snow-pack (about double what it usually is at this time ) hasn't even begun to melt yet!

We are ready to go on the raft - Gussy has his life jacket on, even! The brown spring water is running about 2300 CFS, just last week it was over 9000 from all the rains!

Ready to go!
The Stillwater, wrongfully named by Lewis and Clark, has been very busy this spring. We floated her on Sunday.
Many of her aspects are changing.
The view is still just as gorgeous.
There aren't as many geese this year, many must have been washed out by the flooding, probably somewhere in North Dakota by now! I love Mother Nature and how she has an amazing way of protecting her wildlife. (How many teenagers do you see?)
The color is typical of spring runoff. However, the snow-pack has not yet begun to melt - therefore, it's current color is from the rains/floods last week. (The river is usually blueish-green. )
Here is one of the bald eagles we were lucky enough to see.

What a patient fisherman!
Here is the island where we used to stop and eat our picnic lunch - not anymore!

And last but not least...

HERE is a little taste of it!

Happy Spring! Go Miami!
