Wow, time flies when you're having fun.....and incredibly busy! I'm pretty caught up in the beginning of the school year, still. Haven't gone on any outings for pics, haven't done much of anything but school! Tonight is Open House, so I'll be at school until 9:00 tonight!
I think we should go on a hike this weekend! That's my form of Calgon...taking me away!

Saturday Night's All Right!
Saturday was filled with many-a-things....sort of hodge-podge except all was very meaningful!
Scott, Megs and I drove down to Buffalo to see momma's grave and get it cleaned up. It still has the flowers I put on from us sisters (Vel, Jo Jo and myself), from all her grandkids with megs' silver locket on it, and some extra pink flowers from me. The little Bunny sits on her headstone as well as some flowers from my aunts, Oma Jean and Lenora.
The dirt is settling and the grass is starting to fill in. She's resting in peace.
Here is Megs and I with my Auntie Lenora. She recently turned 84 and she says she is tired, now. She has lived a good life, has family close and is just the sweetest thing like our Gramma Rubye.
Aunt Lenora lives in a nice home with a room called the "museum". It has lots of old family heirlooms in it. One of which is the old cupboard that used to be in gramma and grampa's cabin. This piece of furniture is PRICELESS as far as I am concerned!
And here is the reason I started my Salt and Pepper shaker collection. Aunt Lenora has a collection a little bigger than mine. I used to always look at them as a little girl, but it was THIS set that I fell in love with and decided to start my own! The toaster itself is metal just like the old toasters, the popper-upper thingy still works and the pepper is the rye piece of toast and the salt is the white one! Wow. So cool to see these again after 33 years.
After we visited with Aunt Lenora, we went to the Ladore for a WONDERFULLY yummy dinner and to watch Blind Dog Smokin' play! Here's Chuck and Carl, the only 2 originals that I knew. They have travelled all over the world and live in LA now. Best blues band ever!
Here are a couple newbies...Roland is an incredible bass player from Denver and Moe, I just met, is from LA and plays the blues on that electric keyboard like no other!
And here is the one that stole my heart...Ollie Brown. He lives in England. He contacted Chuck 4 years ago (age 15!) to see how he can go about getting his music. Chuck invited him to sit in...Ollie plays on their tours with them now...he's 19 and quite the musician. The band is a lot different than when I first heard them 12 years ago...and that much better!

Got Blues?
One of the classes I took while working on my Masters Degree was Improvisation. We learned about a variety of styles of music that incorporate improv in their music not only in the Euro American music but also in eastern styles. One of the music teachers were friends with a member of a group called Blind Dog Smokin'. They came into our classroom (how intimidating is it to come teach master music teachers their style?!) and played a bit. I was incredibly curious, so I went to the bar that night and heard them jam.
OMG. Best I've ever heard and I still can't hear blues without comparing them!
I invited these guys to my school and they did a fantastic job in teaching the kids the history of the blues then did a kick ass concert for them and that night for the public. Since then, I consider them my friends and I go hear them when they can.
Then the good/bad news thing happened. They hit it big and moved to LA. I haven't heard them for years. Well, a couple of weeks ago, I emailed the leader and asked if they were going to be in my area and YES!!! THis weekend! I checked out their website and found they have a couple new members.
Nevertheless, I'm sure they are still the best of the best! I can't wait to hear them tonight! I'll let ya know all about the trip!
